Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year!
Dear Students, Parents and Learning Coaches,
This is going to be a great year at Lawrence Virtual School. I am so excited to be your teacher. As you know, the Lawrence Virtual School is a wonderful choice for our families. I commend you on your dedication to your children. Even though your student is in Middle School and a more independent learner, you are in charge of your student’s learning. Let’s work as a team to ensure that your child becomes an independent lifelong learner. I am here to answer questions and to support you every step of the way.
I’ve been with LVS since the first year we opened in 2004. Teaching at both the high school and the junior high throughout the years, I've learned a lot about virtual education. Hopefully some of that will be of value to you. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish and English Education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. I also earned my Master’s Degree from the University of Kansas. This will be my 17th year of teaching; twelve of which have been virtual teaching.
Every day, my students have a chance to meet with other students via Blackboard Collaborate, an online virtual classroom for Hall Talk. Each week students are able to attend various Blackboard Collaborate study groups. I also plan monthly class field trips to places in the Lawrence and Johnson County areas as well as attend various K12 and school wide sponsored events statewide.
I look forward to working with you this year. I am here to help you as your first point of contact, so please feel free to call or k-mail me with any questions, concerns or just to say hello. We are going to have a great year.
Sincerely,
Amanda Gorman
